We present and compare the use of the Kentaa platform for online fundraising year after year. Do you want to know what percentage the average donation amount will have increased in 2023, how that compares between different devices, and what percentage of donors registered for a newsletter? Discover all the figures for 2023 in this blog article.

Revenue via the Kentaa platform increased by 48%
In 2023, 48% more was raised by charities across Europe with our Kentaa platform. With the acquisition of Kentaa by the iRaiser Group, the platform has also been extensively used in France, Italy and the Nordics since the end of 2023. That means continued growth in the amount raised and fundraising success for even more organisations.
Donation amounts are on the rise
We saw average donation amounts increase in 2023.
A fun fact about this starting donation is that 40% of everyone who starts a campaign does so. In addition, even if an action starter pays a registration fee, 46% of them make a starting donation.
Donors are, therefore, giving considerably more than in 2022. If we look at the distribution of donations, we mainly see this increase in the categories €40 - €59 and €80 or more. We also see the increase across all devices: desktop, tablet and mobile. Mobile has the largest share of the number of donations at 85%, desktop at 14% and tablet at only 1%. It has been true for years: the larger the device, the higher the amount donated. This was also the case in 2023.
More than just donations: growth in newsletter subscriptions
In addition to the increase in donation amounts, we see another positive development: a significant increase of 143% in the number of newsletter registrations via the Kentaa platform. This is a direct result of a GDPR change at the end of 2022 in which newsletter registrations became a soft opt-in again.
This again offers plenty of opportunities to build relationships with donors.
Small drop in team and action averages. Returning participants at events provide a challenge
The number of fundraisers and teams that raised donations via the Kentaa platform in 2023 has increased significantly. The number of fundraisers increased by 46%, and the number of teams increased even more, by 55%.
We do see that the average amount they raised (calculated across the fundraisers and teams that actually raised money) has decreased slightly, 3% for fundraisers and 6% for teams. Fundraisers raised €366 and team proceeds amounted to €1,577.
There is a greater challenge for charities that organise fundraising events and have returning participants. These returning participants raised an average of €188, which is a decrease of 23% compared to 2022. It, therefore, appears to be becoming more difficult to motivate and support these participants in their fundraising campaign. These participants often survey the same circle of potential donors, which becomes more difficult with each subsequent participation. It is, therefore, up to charities to help them with the donation request, for example, by choosing specific projects for which money can be raised so that the donation request can also be made more specifically. Impact communication is also becoming more important in convincing donors who have been asked to give again.

Conclusion
2023 was a year in which some challenges were exposed, such as activating fundraisers and (returning) participants of fundraising events to raise funds successfully. However, it was also a year in which donors donated higher average amounts and registered more often for newsletters of our customers. That is good news, and we hope that charities can convert this into sustainable relationships with their supporters in 2024.
